But, we didn’t pay that price; Jesus did.

"Carrying his own cross, [Jesus] went out to the place of the Skull (which in Aramaic is called Golgotha). Here they crucified him, and with him two others--one on each side and Jesus in the middle. … Later, knowing that all was now completed, and so that the Scripture would be fulfilled, Jesus said, ‘I am thirsty.’ A jar of wine vinegar was there, so they soaked a sponge in it, put the sponge on a stalk of the hyssop plant, and lifted it to Jesus' lips. When he had received the drink, Jesus said, ‘It is finished.’ With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit." (Jhn 17-18; 28-30 NIV)

"At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split. The tombs broke open and the bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs, and after Jesus' resurrection they went into the holy city and appeared to many people. When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, ‘Surely he was the Son of God!’" (Mat 27:51-54 NIV)

Jesus is the Son of God. During His life on earth He said, " I and the Father are one." (John 10:30 NIV). Jesus is God. He humbled Himself, even to die on a cross, so that his death would take the place of ours. Mankind has never seen such love! He could have saved Himself, but He was there to save us. He was there to stand in our place. You and I deserved to be crucified there on the hilltop, but God was merciful. He freed us from the penalty for sin… one person at a time, for all time. It is finished… mostly…
